The San Diego Unified School District is committed to providing young children and eligible students with disabilities a free and appropriate public education consistent with federal and state laws. These laws require the district to identify, locate and assess all students within the district from birth to 21 years of age who may have disabilities, and to provide appropriate support and services to those eligible. Special Education support and services are provided under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004.
Linda Vista Elementary Special Education Programs:
Students with mild to moderate disabilities are placed in general education classrooms and provided services and support in order to meet their specific academic, behavioral or other goals. Students receive their support both inside and outside their general education classroom by an education specialist or a paraeducator.
Students with moderate to severe disabilities are placed in an extensive needs classroom with no more than 12 students. These classrooms have one teacher and at least two paraeducators. Students work on curriculum at their developmental level as well as receiving all of the services that are in their individualized education plan.
